Welcome to The Franciscan Ceramics Chronicle, a deep exploration of the artistry, history, and legacy of Franciscan Ceramics.

I’m James Elliot-Bishop, an author, historian, and collector with over 40 years of dedicated research into Franciscan Ware. My journey has taken me from book publishing to curating archives, contributing to museum exhibitions, and building one of the earliest ceramics websites in the 1990s. Through this Substack, I aim to uncover rare designs, production secrets, and the craftsmanship behind Franciscan Ceramics—ensuring its legacy continues to inspire generations.
